Michael O’Donohoe Collection: Accessions

During the process of cataloguing the Michael O’Donohoe Collection, additional material was acquired by donation and purchase.1  This material, which included books, documents and photographs, was catalogued separately.

Among those who contributed were Breda Brooks (sister of the late Michael O’Donohoe); Johnnie Roche, Tomo Burke and John Reidy (committee); Jan Wesley, Peggy Reidy, Dave Geaney, Sheila Hannon, Noel Lane and Timothy Murphy.

Publications include titles by Leo Bowes author of The Sporting Irish (c1976) which contains sketches of 55 sportsmen among them Tralee strongman, John Moriarty; Kenmare athlete Michael Sweeney; wrestlers the Casey brothers and Tralee footballer Dan O’Keeffe.2

The valuable, Memoirs of Billy Mullins (1983); the poetry of M J Reidy (Borders of Song and The Kerry Piper);  Mysteries of Ireland and Tragedies of Kerry also number among the published materials.

2 A copy of Haunted Ireland (c1976), which contains ghost stories from around Ireland and Kerry including The Haunted Room in Killarney and The Monster of Lough Brin is also held together with a note about Leo Bowes.  In this series is also Songs and Ballads of Kerry a book of 52 songs including The Battle of Callan, The Boatmen of Kerry, Skibbereen and The Songs of Puck Fair.
